PBS introduced us to Anne Shirley with its Wonderworks production. I read the books much later. One thing that always impressed me was how much the house in the series looked like the island house in Elk Rapids. It became the public library a few years after my grandparents sold the house back to the city. When ever we were near Elk Rapids my mom would stop and we would walk the grounds.
At some point a large tree with gnarled branches sat on the river bank. There was a perch that would hold you over the water and let you dip your toes in the water. Each of us kids took a picture in that tree. It isn't there any more. But the island house is. And it still looks like Green Gables to me.
