Do you know Victor Riley?

I found a blog that has been around for a while. It is well written and very entertaining. Victor is a fellow geek with all the questions and angst that comes with that territory. It is well worth a look. If you need more entertainment or you just want to feel like you are part of a bigger community of people who feel like you do then stop by.

In a lot of ways he reminds me of Wil. It takes conscientious focus for me to keep up with the references because of his various interests. But he writes very unselfconsciously. He also evokes the kind of stream of conscious/top-of-mind/lack-of-internal-editor that Rick Castle has. Fun and youthful in heart.

Victor doesn't post frequently so he'll be an easy follow. And the story of how he got his name is awesome. I think on some level those infectious private in jokes that spread beyond a group must be another hallmark of geekdom. We haven't had that kind of notoriety in our group. But we did manage a kind of generationality to the Denny's cup prank that warms my heart to no end.

BTW: I know generationality is not a real word. But we are wordsmiths... we can do what we want.

  1. Thank you for the kind words!

And would this "Denny's Cup Prank" involve a fork, a creamer and an impression of jabbing your own eye? Because I love that one, and have pulled it off many times. :)

  2. Actually no.
An ill-fated hike in the Upper Peninsula resulted in my sister stepping in a knee-deep mud puddle. Ruined socks were removed and stowed in the empty Denny's cup for transport back to base. The cup somehow found its way onto Mikes sky blue Rabbit's antena. He did not notice it until the next day... when he found mud had slobbered the hood of his car.
After than, whenever anyone saw friends cars in various parking lots across Campus we left a ubiquitous Denny's cup to day "Hello."
Then we did it in the Mall parking lots, downtown, church. Right up until Mike's dad screamed vandalism. It wasn't really. There were no muddy socks in it. But then...
    parents just don't understand.

  3. I like it... it's guaranteed to induce giggling... as opposed to the "eye-jab" prank, which is equally likely to induce shocked screaming or eyes rolling. (Which can still be pretty funny at 3 a.m. in a Denny's. Truly the best time frame to eat at Denny's...)

  4. Without a doubt.
3 a.m. is also the best time to giggle oneself senseless.
